To learn more about these iconic educational facilities, attend the Michigan One Room Schoolhouse Association annual conferance at Central Michigan University on Saturday, May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Part of the meeting will be held at the 1901 Bohannon School, located at the corner of Preston Street and West Campus Drive. Explore how ipads, smart phones, flip cams and more can enhance your writing. This four-day camp will explore new technologies are paired with traditional writing. The Chippewa River Writing Camps encourage young writers become more confident and creative. It is open to students entering grades 3 - 5 this fall. Participants will explore different parts of campus. Other events include a writing marathon on Wednesday and an author's celebration on Thursday afternoon.

Reacting to the Past Training Seminar

Are you interested in learning about the Reacting to the Past (RTTP) pedagogy? Jace Weaver and Laura Adams Weaver, developers of “Red Clay, 1835: Cherokee Removal and the Meaning of Sovereignty,” will teach participants how to use RTTP in the classroom. Participants will also play the Red Clay game.

Journey Through the Jungle: A Fascinating Look at Life in the Rainforest

"Journey Through the Jungle: A Fascinating Look at Life in the Rainforest" is on display through December 2013 at CMU's Museum of Cultural and Natural History. The exhibit includes photos and displays of plants and animals that live in the rainforest, live critters and a display on rainforest conservation. The exhibit features a large children's section that includes a replica bat cave and tribal hut, passports for kids to earn stickers at each station they visit, and several hands-on activities.
