Emon Khari Butts

I am from Detroit, Mich. and am a junior at CMU. My major is biology with a natural resources concentration. I conduct research with Dr. Hunter Carrick, working on constructing microscopic food webs of the Beaver Island lakes. I would like to be an ecology professor. I enjoy going to concerts and producing hip-hop instrumentals in my spare time.

Domonique Kiera Byrd

I am from Royal Oak, Mich. and am a junior at CMU. My major is biomedical science and I conduct research with Dr. Stephen Juris. I research martx toxin, which causes the symptoms of cholera. I would like to be a doctor someday - either a neurologist or general surgeon. In my spare time, I enjoy watching Grey's Anatomy, learning, and spending time with friends.

Twila Deon Cannon

I was born in Detroit, Mich. and live in Highland Park, Mich. I attended Highland Park High School and am now a junior at CMU, where my major is biology with a pre-professional option. I conduct research with Dr. Jennifer Schisa, identifying proteins involved in RNP granule formation. I would like to study veterinary pathology and animal diseases at Michigan State University. I enjoy going to the movies, bowling, spending time with friends and family, volunteering at the animal shelter in Mount Pleasant and being active.

Carlos Jose Coronado

I am from Hazel Park, Mich. and am a senior at CMU, where I am majoring in biology with a concentration in natural resources. My field of research is fisheries ecology and conservation. I conduct research with Dr. Tracy Galarowicz. Specifically, I study smallmouth bass movement in northern Lake Michigan. I would like to attend a graduate program in forest ecology/conservation and restoration. I like to play sports, ride my bike, play the guitar and spend time outdoors.

Nicole Lynn-Bell

I am from Mount Morris, Mich., graduated from Beecher High School in 2010 and am currently in my junior year at CMU where I am a biology major. I conduct research with Dr. Peter Kourtev, investigating the effect of autumn olive on soil in microbial communities. My research lab specializes in microbial ecology. I plan to pursue my Ph.D. in toxicology or environmental health. I love playing video games, traveling and volunteering with Gear-Up in my spare time.

Gabrielle Celest Odom

I am from Lansing, Mich. and am a sophomore at CMU, majoring in biomedical science. I conduct research with Dr. Janet Miller on hydrocephalus and protein synthesis. I would like to be an obstetrician/gynecologist. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, listening to music, dancing and reading.

Chenee Rose Peeples

I am from Farmington Hills, Mich. where I graduated from Farmington Harrison High School. I am currently a junior at CMU and majoring in biomedical science. I conduct research with Dr. Peter Kourtev on bacterial diversity in pitcher plants. My professional goals are to become a pediatrician and own a private practice. I enjoy working with children and doing arts and crafts in my spare time. I love watching football and am a fan of all Detroit sports teams.

Brianna Nicole Smith

I am from Flint, Mich. where I graduated from Flint Southwestern Academy. I am a sophomore at CMU and majoring in biology. I conduct research with Dr. Steven Gorsich, studying how stress affects the production of gametes in yeast spores. I plan to attend graduate school to study physical therapy, and would like to conduct research in the physiological differences between athletes and non-active persons. I like to write, spend time with friends and get out and about in my spare time.

David Syckle II

I am from Alma, Mich. and graduated from Agape Faith Bible Training Center in Birch Run, Mich. I am a junior at CMU, majoring in biology with a natural resources concentration. I conduct research with Dr. Brad Swanson, studying population indices of feral swine in central Michigan. I would like to get my Ph.D. in forest or wildlife ecology and work for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Quality. In my free time, I like to be outdoors, spending time with family, learning and reading.

Trey Williams

I am from Lansing, Mich. and graduated from Holt High School. Currently, I am a sophomore at CMU, majoring in biomedical science. I conduct research with Dr. Daniel Griffin on cancer vaccinations. I am undecided on my career goals. I enjoy spending time outside in warm weather, reading and relaxing with friends. I also love trying new food and exploring different restaurants.
