The CMU Department of Chemistry maintains modern facilities and instrumentation for use by undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty researchers.
Labs
The Department of Chemistry is an integral part of the classification of CMU as a research-intensive university. Housed in a 60,000 square foot facility built in 1991, the Dow Science Complex accommodates approximately 40 undergraduate and graduate student researchers through the connection of 20 faculty research laboratories.
Equipment
CMU's chemistry faculty members have broad interests. Resources to support research include a variety of high-tech spectrometers, an X-ray diffractometer, high-temperature chromatographic systems, and more.
