Whether you're interested in teaching mathematics, managing risk as an actuary, or using statistics to make informed decisions in areas from business to government, CMU's Department of Mathematics has a program for you.
In addition to your course work, you will have opportunities for hands-on experiences, including:
Research Experience for Undergraduates. The National Science Foundation has funded a Research Experience for Undergraduates program for mathematics at CMU since 2002, giving students the opportunity to work closely with mathematics faculty members.
Ph.D. in Mathematics. The Ph.D. degree with a concentration in teaching college mathematics is designed to prepare researchers who will work at four-year colleges and universities. Students can do research in mathematics, statistics or math education. The emphasis on pedagogy includes two courses in math education plus upper-level teaching experience.
