Dale W. Karolak, ’81, has demonstrated an
advanced commitment to CMU in many ways.
He currently serves on the College of Science
and Technology’s Alumni Advisory Board and the
Department of Engineering and Technology’s
Advisory Board. Despite a difficult schedule
traveling worldwide as a Product Manager at
AVL, Dale rarely misses any of these regular
board meetings.
He always volunteers and makes suggestions
for how he can give back to his alma mater. He
recently returned to speak to student groups and participated in the College
of Science and Technology’s first Alumni Career Day. He also regularly attends
CMU alumni and athletic events.
For more than 11 years Dale and his wife, Lorraine, ’80, have contributed to a
named annual software engineering scholarship. In 2010 he was instrumental
in a $30,000 in-kind electrical engineering software gift from Lowry Computer
Products where he worked at the time.
Dale has very strong family ties to CMU. In addition to him and his wife, their
son, Ryan, and Dale’s sister, Dawn, his brother-in law, Michael, and his parents
in-law Bill and Dorthy Theunissen, along with brothers and sister in-laws Mike,
Chris and Barb Theunissen are CMU alumni. Dale and Lorraine’s daughter,
Christine, currently is a senior at CMU.
CMU is in Dale’s heart as he strives to provide students with more
opportunities, including developing plans for future internship positions.
