535 Dementia Care: Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention 3(3-0)
This course provides a foundation in normal aging and then addresses
the individual, family and institutional challenges of diagnosis,
treatment and prevention of dementing illnesses. Prerequisites: GRN 247
or PSY 325 or HSC 390 or permission of instructor.
GRN 575 Geriatric Nutrition 3(3-0)
A detailed description of nutrition for the elderly, including special
nutritional considerations, food selection patterns, nutritional status and
strategies for disease prevention. Identical to HEV 575. Credit may not be
earned in more than one of these courses. Prerequisites: HEV 370.
GRN 590 Independent Study 1-4(Spec)
Student-initiated study (reading, research, and/or project development) on a
topic not normally covered in existing courses. Prerequisite: permission of
instructor prior to registration.
GRN 597 Special Topics 1-4(Spec)
Selected topics/problems of interest that are not normally
included in existing courses. May include conferences,
workshops, and seminars sponsored by the Interdisciplinary
Gerontology Program. Prerequisite: permission of instructor.
GRN 631 Gerontology: Theory and Practice
3(3-0)
Course examines multidisciplinary gerontological theory and practice.
Spans early disease models, successful aging, postmodern paradigms and
implications for practice. Emphasizes relationship between theory
and practice. Prerequisite: graduate status.
GRN 632 Public Policy and Aging 3(3-0)
Course addresses the development of social policy in the context of
population aging. Emphasizes analysis of current and long-term
implications on policy decisions. Prerequisite: graduate
status.
