Cognitive Science Major

The Departments of Computer Science, Philosophy and Psychology jointly offer an interdisciplinary major in Cognitive Science. This major consists of 27 hours in the core, 12 hours of electives, and up to 20 hours of corequisites and prerequisites. A total of 59 semester hours may be required. The objectives of the program are to give you (1) a balanced education in the study of cognition from the perspectives of computer science, philosophy, and psychology; (2) a current education in the most recent approaches to cognitive modeling in each of the three disciplines; (3) a sound preparation for career opportunities or further professional study in the areas of industry and research that are direct consequences of the application of computer technology to the study of cognition; and (4) a flexible program allowing you to focus your interest in either of the related disciplines by concentrations of electives in your choice of fields.
