Interdisciplinary
Science Major

B.S. in Ed. degree, Elementary emphasis

This major is administered by the Department of Biology. Students are cautioned that they must have 36 semester hours on their Science major that are not counted on any other major or minor for teacher certification. A minimum 2.7 GPA (B-) must be earned in all teaching majors.

Required Courses (18-19 hours):
BIO 101 (3) General Biology 
OR
BIO 105 (3) Introductory Quantitative Biology
BIO 229 (3) Nature Study
MTH 151 (3) Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I
MTH 152 (3) Mathematics for Elementary Teachers II
PHS 151 (3) Introductory Physical Science I
One of the following:
CHM 111 (3) Interaction of Chemistry and Society
CHM 120 (4) Survey of Chemistry
PHS 251 (3) Introductory Physical Science II

Electives (17-18 hours): To be selected from one of the following:
a. 11-12 hours in one area from BIO, CHM, ESC, GEL, MTH, PHS (including AST) and 5-6 additional hours in a second of these areas.
b. 17-18 hours selected from at least three of the following areas: BIO, CHM, ESC, GEL, MTH, PHS (including AST).

Total: 36 semester hours
