Welcome the new Botanical Gardens
A groundbreaking ceremony is planned at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 9 for the new CMU Botanical Gardens.
The event, organized by the College of Science and Technology, will be held on the lawn area west of Park Library and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
In addition to beautifying campus, the Botanical Gardens are being designed to foster community participation and establish an outdoor educational laboratory for researchers and students of all ages. For more information contact Lori Kreiner at 1916 or krein1ll@cmich.edu.
Shakespearean laughs
University Theatre opens its season with laughs through a production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)." All of the bard's 37 plays are compressed into 97 minutes in this hilarious parody during which three actors play all the roles. (Shown here is a scene from "Romeo and Juliet.")
Performances in Bush Theatre are Sept. 3 through 6 at 7:30 p.m. each day and Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. Call the Central Box Office at 3000 for tickets.
Taking the team to Georgia
Head football coach Butch Jones gets the crowd excited during last week's Fire Up Fest. CMU opens a three-game road swing this weekend when it travels to No. 1-ranked Georgia. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The Chippewas' next home game is Sept. 27 against Buffalo at 4 p.m.
Meet Claudene
Detroit artist Deborah Friedman shares "Claudene," a contemporary series of oil paintings, now through Oct. 29 in the Baber Room, Park Library. Friedman combines words and images to evoke memories of a child and convey a sense of childlike simplicity.
