Payton has become a staple in the New Orleans and world jazz scene, having released albums ranging from blends of hip-hop, electronica and effects-driven trumpeting, to the traditional with his own creative spin. Trained by jazz legions Clyde Kerr Jr. and Ellis Marsalis, Payton continues to impress with his own style and willingness to transcend the traditional boundaries.
Payton has performed with a variety of musicians, such as Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove and Doc Cheatham, and received a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Solo for his playing on the album “Doc Cheatham & Nicholas Payton.” Payton also has performed on the soundtrack for the movie “Kansas City” and performed on four of the original soundtracks to the popular anime series “Cowboy Bebop.”
