Programs

Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education is a specialized rehabilitation center of excellence, located in the modern Health Professions Building on the beautiful campus of Central Michigan University.
The Center offers state-of-the-art diagnostics, rehabilitation and education services in the fields of Audiology, Physical Therapy, Psychology and Speech-Language Pathology. Other medical and health disciplines, provided by the Physician Assistant program, Dietetics and Gerontology complement these core services as needed, so that individualized patient-centered care is provided.
We take great pride in serving a wide range of specialized clinical and rehabilitation needs for persons from infancy through adulthood. Here is a list of some of the many services and programs operated through the Carls Center:
Speech -Language and Audiology Clinics
Psychology - Individual, couple, family and group mental and behavioral health counseling offered to the public using a sliding fee scale based on annual income and number of dependents.
Specialty Interdisciplinary Programs
- Adult Weight Management Program
- Driving Evaluation, Education, and Research (D.E.E.R.) Program, a driving safety program for older drivers, persons with history of attention deficit disorder, and persons who have had a stroke, brain injury, or neurodegenerative disease.
- Fall and Balance Clinic, a Vestibular Diagnostic and Physical Rehabilitation Program
- TBI Research exploring how to improve coordination problems relating to deployment-acquired brain injuries.
The Carls Center supports the integration of skills, expertise and services offered by the university with community health care resources. It also provides real-world experiences for students pursuing careers in the health professions.
Weight Loss Study

Central Michigan University and Central Michigan Community Hospital’s Wellness Central Fitness support a one-year weight loss program that incorporates sound nutrition with exercise.
