Pamela Gates is professor of English at Central Michigan University and is currently serving as Interim Dean of the College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences at CMU. Dr. Gates completed her doctoral work at Michigan State University where she specialized in literacy and learning, literature for children and young adults, language arts, and English education.
She has taught a wide range of courses including seminars in children's literature, fantasy literature for children, young adult literature, multicultural literature for children, heroic traditions in literature for children, and graduate seminars in children's literature.
She has presented nationally and internationally, has published more than a dozen articles and book chapters, co-authored two books: Fantasy Literature for Children and Young Adults, published in 2003, and Cultural Journeys: Multicultural Literature for Children and Young Adults, a resource book for Scarecrow Press published in 2006. She is currently working on two additional book manuscripts.
Dr. Gates has served CHSBS as Associate Dean since 2001 and as Interim Dean in 2007.
