Message from the Dean
Greetings:
The 2010 Annual University Campaign has begun! Running from October 11 through December 3, the Campaign offers faculty, staff, and retirees the opportunity to support students and projects here at CMU. I encourage your participation once again this year and offer a new opportunity for your support through the newly established Great Lakes Institute for Sustainable Systems (GLISS) at CMU.
As interim dean for CHSBS, I am pleased to lead the college in the creation of GLISS with the mission of promoting academic programs, research, community outreach, and campus operations dedicated to the advancement of sustainable systems. The GLISS mission highlights the need to promote the development of sustainable systems within the environment, across societies and communities, in economic development, and in energy utilization. The Institute will promote these goals through interdisciplinary collaboration within the University and through complementary external partnerships to benefit the community, the Great Lakes region, and the world.
CHSBS will again match $.50 for every dollar for donors who increase their gift or pledge amounts from last year by at least $100 toward programs and scholarships within CHSBS, including the Great Lakes Sustainable Systems Institute. The college will match gifts up to a cumulative total of $20,000 overall. New donors to the campaign will also receive the match from the college. Consequently, in combination with the university match, your new or increased gift amount to a CHSBS account will receive a total 1:1 match! One hundred percent of your gift and its match amount will be directed toward the area or program of your choosing. What a wonderful way to stretch your charitable gift, show your CMU spirit, and support our students and programs.
CMU finished last year's campaign with a record setting $832,000, which surpassed the Campaign's overall goal by over $62,000 with 1,019 faculty, staff, and retirees contributing. The Annual Campaign goal for 2010 is $875,000 and 1,100 donors, which would translate into another record setting year.
Thank you for your consideration of a gift to the 2010 All-University Campaign through support of the Great Lakes Sustainable Systems Institute or any of the various CHSBS scholarships and programs that will benefit from your generosity. Additional information will be arriving in your mailbox and email over the next few days and weeks. In the meantime, however, if you have any questions, please contact Lesa Smith, director of development, at lesa.smith@cmich.edu or 774-3354.
Sincerely,
Pamela S. Gates
Interim Dean
