Scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in social work courses with preference for out-of-state residents.

Center for Research on Poverty (CROP) Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to the student who writes a master's thesis that enhances the understanding of the causes, consequences and alleviation of human poverty.

Friends of Anthropology Summer Scholarships
These scholarships provide supplemental financial support to anthropology students enrolled in field school programs. The fund was established in honor of Dr. Mary E. Fleming Mathur, member of the anthropology faculty from 1970-94.
- Anthropology majors who intend to study anthropology in a graduate program are eligible to apply.
- Applicants are selected based on academic excellence overall and in anthropology courses.

Leslie and Leonard Lieberman Social Science Scholarship
Scholarship awarded annually to an anthropology, social work, sociology or family studies major. It was established in memory of Leslie and Leonard Lieberman, former faculty members in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work.
- Applicants must be of junior or senior standing in the semester following application.
- Minimum 3.4 GPA
- Recipients are chosen on the basis of excellence in academic performance and writing skills as demonstrated in an essay describing career goals.

Edward E. McKenna Academic Excellence Award
Scholarship awarded annually to sociology majors. It was established in 1998 in memory of Edward E. McKenna, a dedicated teacher, scholar, and unionist.
- Juniors, seniors or graduate students are eligible to apply.
- Applicant must demonstrate exemplary achievements in sociological research methods based on a research paper submitted as well as overall achievement in sociology.

Bernard N. Meltzer Scholarship
Scholarship is awarded biannually to provide a stipend to the student who has written the best master’s thesis in sociology within the prior two years. It was established by friends in honor of Bernard N. Meltzer, former faculty member and chairperson of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work.

Robert Newby Fund to Support Student Diversity Efforts
Award given annually to up to three undergraduate students and one graduate student for completing activities supporting diversity efforts. The awards will be presented at the annual Student Research and Creative Endeavors Exhibition.
- Sociology graduate students (Plan A) are eligible to apply.
- Undergraduate and graduate students
- Activity must be linked to a credit bearing academic experience at CMU involving research, creative activity or the application of findings
- Applicants must complete a formal paper/report of activity
- Applicants must submit a letter of support from a faculty member who is either a supervisor of the activity or can attest to its quality
