The American Ethnic Studies Minor was developed to serve two goals:

  1. To allow CMU students to develop a greater understanding of cultural diversity in the United States, thereby enhancing their effectiveness in multicultural work settings and their awareness as citizens of a culturally diverse society.
  2. To provide students of culturally diverse backgrounds with an academic program that addresses their heritage and enhances their self-awareness.

The Minor is designed for students majoring in any field, but may be especially appropriate for students majoring in the social sciences and human service fields.
