Veterans Day
Central Michigan University celebrated Veterans Day with unrivaled fanfare this past week. Cadets from the CMU ROTC program hosted a variety of activities to commemorate all Veterans including many CMU alumni.
The events began with a special tailgating session hosted by cadets. All current and former armed forces members were treated to a bbq cookout. During this period, participants were able to share war stories and memories with each other. This not only was a time of celebration, but it provided many of the cadets an idea of both the scope and lineage they were a part of as they witnessed several generations of veterans under one tent. As camera crews and interviews took place, veterans and their families slowly began to move to the stadium for a the football game against Toledo University.
The gameball was brought in by the Fastrax Skydivers, many of which were military service veterans. As the the skydivers landed the crowd roared with enthuasim, creating an atomsphere like no other. The appreciation for veterans was unparalleled , as chants of "USA, USA" echoed through the stadium on a cold November night.
During the halftime show, cadets, veterans, and future army enlistees took the field. As the CMU band played a patriotic medley, CMU ROTC's Professor of Military Science, LTC Aarron Kalloch took the field and read both the newly enlisting and re-enlisting their oath, making for an unforgettable experience.
