The campaign for the Education Building
A minimum of $7.5 million
CMU was founded by civic-minded community leaders who recognized the need to prepare highly qualified teachers. CMU's future success in this field relies on the support of this project by individuals committed to improving the lives of Michigan residents through the continued advancement of teaching and learning throughout the state of Michigan.
The campaign for the Education Building has a goal to raise $7.5 million or more toward the university's $12.5 million matching requirement. The campaign for the Education Building presents many new donor engagement and naming opportunities for CMU alumni, friends, partners, faculty, staff, and others to realize the immense potential in CMU's College of Education and Human Services.
A wide variety of giving opportunities are available
Why a new building is needed
The new Education Building will consolidate CMU's education-related programs, which currently are located throughout campus. Having all these programs located under one roof will increase collaboration for research, classes, and special projects. The facility will be technology-rich, energy efficient, and conducive to interpersonal activity, social learning, professional role modeling, and team building.
The new facility will:
- Increase CMU's capacity to graduate more teachers and increase the retention of new teachers in the field by providing additional statewide resources for professional development
- Improve the teaching of math and science
- Provide progressive learning and research resources specifically designed for the education professions at CMU
- Enhance CMU's teacher education programs with technologically advanced learning centers and laboratories, mediated classrooms, online virtual instructional resources, and interactive telecommunications capabilities
- Provide much-needed space to offer professional development programs for in-service teachers and to develop programs for the community at large
