Since its founding in 1892, Central Michigan University has been a leader in the field of teacher education. The teacher education program prepares students for the multiple roles of classroom teacher, school team member, community leader, and education advocate.

Attention prospective Fall 2012 Student Teachers

Students should plan to attend a Student Teaching Application meeting on either Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 7:00 pm or Friday, January 13 at 2:00 pm in the French Auditorium.  The application deadline is Thursday, January 26, 2012 at noon.

  • 97.3% of responding Principals in 2011 said they are inclined to hire another CMU teacher education graduate.
  • The Michigan Department of Education granted CMU “Exemplary Performance” for its teacher education program – the highest rating from the state for teacher preparation programs.
  • CMU is the only institution to incorporate the Michigan Literacy Progress Program (MLPP) certification modules into its elementary reading curriculum while also offering a single class for MLPP certification to students who are not planning to minor in reading.
