Naming opportunities are one of the many ways you can leave a legacy in honor of your family, parents, mentors etc. Your generous gift will provide important resources for CMU to continue attracting the best students and staff, enhancing the facilities comprising one of the state's top learning and living environments, and building our programs to be consistently competitive on a national level.
The campaign for the Education and Human Services Building
This new facility, an estimated 134,500 gross square feet, is designed to bring together in a single location a number of education-related programs and centers currently dispersed throughout campus such as: Teacher Education and Professional Development, Educational Leadership, Counseling and Special Education, The Center for Charter Schools, and the Child Development Learning Lab. This historic building is located in the southwest quadrant of campus, bordered by Washington Street, Ojibway Drive, and Ottawa Drive (See map).
The new facility is designed to:
- Enhance CMU's teacher education programs with technologically advanced learning centers and laboratories, mediated classrooms, online virtual instructional resources, and interactive telecommunications capabilities
- Provide progressive learning and research resources specifically designed for the education professions at CMU
- Provide much-needed space to offer professional development programs for in-service teachers and to develop programs for the community at large
While the building in and of itself is a masterpiece of technology and environmental design, the activity and collaboration within these walls will impact our students and community for decades to come. From the Child Development Learning Lab, Reading Clinics, Science & Math Methods Lab, and 200 seat auditorium on the first floor, to The Center for Charter Schools occupying the second floor, the experimental CALI (Center for Applied Learning and Instruction) lab and the child and family counseling clinics on the third floor, and cutting edge classrooms and seminar rooms throughout the building, CMU is making great strides in advancing the preparation of Education and Human Services graduates.
Help us reach our goal!
Costs associated with the $50 million project are shared by the state of Michigan, providing 75 percent of the needed funding, and Central Michigan University, responsible for the remaining 25 percent, or approximately $12.5 million. A minimum fundraising goal of $7.5 million has been set to support this project. The building will open for the fall semester of 2009.
