Cohort Program

Congratulations on Your Admission to Teacher Education!

I am delighted that you have been selected for admission into the teacher education program at Central Michigan University. For each admission period, candidates with the highest composite scores are chosen for the program. This admission allows you to register for your professional education classes (Cohorts) and continue your academic journey toward teacher certification.

The Cohort Program is a planned sequence of required EDU professional education courses. It was developed to guarantee seats in professional education courses in the two semesters immediately following admission to the Teacher Education Program. Please note that, in order to take your second semester cohort classes, you must successfully complete your first semester of cohort classes with a C+ or better. This is also a requirement for student teaching. The sequence of courses within the two semesters permits you to meet all prerequisites. If you need to repeat a course, please contact the TEPD Office. You will be rescheduled as space permits.

Cohort sign-up is completed electronically through our website. The cohort registration section of the website has more information for you about cohorts including the electronic registration process, cohort schedules, how to request a change of classes, etc. After reading all the information about cohort sign-up, if you still have questions please contact 989-774-3975 or email cohorts@cmich.edu.

Counseling and Special Education (CSE) is making SPE 504 available to all students admitted to Teacher Education. TEPD and CSE Faculty, recent teacher education graduates, and NCATE (a national teacher education accreditation organization), all recommend that students take this class prior to student teaching. I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity.

The faculty and staff of TEPD look forward to working with you while you take your cohort classes and complete your student teaching. Please feel free to contact us by phone at 989-774-3975, email cohorts@cmich.edu, or stop in EHS 421. We'll be happy to talk with you.

TEPD has numerous scholarships available to students admitted to teacher education. I encourage you, as newly admitted teacher education students, to review the criteria for them and apply for all whose criteria you meet. Applications will be available at the beginning of February each year for the following academic year.

On behalf of the TEPD faculty and staff, I congratulate you on your admission. We look forward to assisting you as you continue to pursue the teaching profession.

Sincerely,

Leonie Rose, Ph.D.

TEPD Department Chairperson
