Scholarships
The Department of Human Environmental Studies is pleased to be able to offer several undergraduate student scholarships. Each scholarship is awarded during the spring semester following an application process. It is not uncommon for more than one of each scholarship to be awarded. Students in Human Environmental Studies are encouraged to apply in the spring semester during their sophomore or junior year. Each scholarship is described below.

Laurel Wood Brice Endowed Award for Life Management Education
Tracey Marie Rondy Memorial Endowment Award
This scholarship was established by Tracey Rondy's family and friends in her memory. It will be awarded to an outstanding CMU student who has demonstrated leadership, service, academic achievement and commitment to his or her chosen field. The recipient will also exemplify dedication and a positive attitude. The student must be a resident from the Mt. Pleasant area and enrolled as a full-time CMU student, with an overall G.P.A. of 3.0 or better. Priority will be given to students majoring in Interior Design and/or have worked on the Mt. Pleasant vocational education house during high school.
Rose Hogue Scholarship
This scholarship(s) was established by Ms. Hogue who served as chair of the department in 1949 when Wightman Hall was built. This scholarship is restricted to a Human Environmental Studies Dietetics Major. This award will be made to a sophomore or junior for use in the junior or senior year. The recipient will have demonstrated outstanding scholastic achievement.
Helen Lohr Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1987 through an estate gift and continuing contributions from family and friends. The award is based upon merit and is to go to a student for use in the junior or senior year. The applicant must be a major or minor in the Department of Human Environmental Studies.
Charlotte Trout Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1979 by Mr. and Mrs. George J. Verville in memory of Charlotte W. Trout to provide a monetary award to a junior or senior majoring in Human Environmental Studies at Central Michigan University. Preference is given to a student who gives promise of becoming outstanding in the field and who is dedicated to the preservation of the family. The student must demonstrate excellent performance in scholastic achievement.
Freddie Simonds Scholarship
This scholarship is for students with a demonstrated commitment to Life Management Education. The applicant must be pursuing a secondary teaching certificate in Life Management Education to teach at the high school level, or intend to pursue graduate study in education to teach Life Management Education at the college level. The award is for use in the junior or senior year and the applicant must have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0.
Kappa Omicron Nu Scholarship Award
The purpose of the Kappa Omicron Nu (KON) Scholarship program is to recognize and encourage excellence in scholarship, service, and leadership. This scholarship is restricted to a current Kappa Omicron Nu member.
Cindy Hales AMD Internship Scholarship
This scholarship is for an Apparel Merchandising or Design major who will be interning outside the state of Michigan during summer. The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
