At Student Disability Services, we are guided by a model of student empowerment. College is a time of transition, and we know that you face the same challenges as every other college student, plus the challenges related to disabilities. Even so, the successful transition into an independent, self-advocating individual should be the goal of every student.

You've already taken an enormous step into the world of self-reliance and responsibility. You've applied to and been accepted by CMU. What is your next step? Services and support are available on campus for students who have a documented disability that significantly impacts one or more major life functions. You should consider applying for registration with Student Disability Services if:
- You have a documented disability that significantly affects major life functions.
- You had an IEP in high school.
- You are a client of Vocational Rehabilitation, Commission for the Blind or other related agency.
- You were registered with Disability Services at another college.

Central Michigan University is committed to providing students with disabilities the academic accommodations and auxiliary aids necessary to ensure access to all university services, programs and activities. In addition to the university's campus-wide efforts to promote access and inclusion, students with disabilities are further accommodated based on specific individual needs. Student Disability Services provides accommodations for CMU students with permanent or temporary disabilities who choose to register with our office.
Students are encouraged to register as early as possible, as accommodations are not retroactive and do not automatically carry over from high school or another institution. The registration process is designed to be straightforward and can typically be completed within a few days once the student registers for services and provides their documentation. However, additional time for processing is to be expected during peak registration and renewal periods, most notably in August and during the beginning weeks of a semester.

The mission of Student Disability Services is to assist in the creation and maintenance of a community environment where a disability is neutral; a community where services are integrated throughout the university; a community where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to fully participate. Student Disability Services cooperates through partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to promote individual students' independence, academic success and career goals.

How to find us
Our office is located in Park Library 120. Go through the sliding glass doors located to the right of the elevators of the first-floor lobby, and then follow the hallway around to the left until you reach our office. There will be study rooms and bookshelves along the way. You will need your ID to enter, or just knock on the door.
