Mission & Goals of the Accreditation Steering Committee

Mission

The mission of the Accreditation Steering Committee is to coordinate a comprehensive institutional self study, the preparation of the self-study report, and the site visit that are required for the 2005-06 review of CMU by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association (NCA) of Colleges and Schools in a manner that will lead to full reaccreditation of CMU.

How will the mission be met?

The Accreditation Self-Study Steering Committee will coordinate the gathering of relevant information, the analysis, and the preparation of a summary of the findings. These will be presented as CMU's Self-Study Report.

Assessment instrument

The committee's work will be evaluated on how well it met the following:

A self-study report that is internally useful and acceptable to the Higher Learning Commission.

Result:  A comprehensive self-study report was submitted to the Higher Learning Commission in September 2005.  The CMU report has been identified by the HLC as one to be displayed as a model at the 2006 HLC Annual Meeting.

A site visit that results in a recommendation for continuing accreditation for the maximum ten year period and generates useful advice for improving CMU.

Result: The visitor consultant-evaluators recommended accreditation for a full 10-year term with no required interim visits or reports.  They also provided a report based largely on the special emphasis chapter giving much useful advice.

Goals for the Self Study
  1. Be able to use the information we gather to improve the institution (Individuals can submit feedback by clicking here).
  2. Identify ways to use the expertise that exists on campus to address issues
  3. Find ways to improve record management and coordinate technology use
  4. Support the use of student learning outcomes assessment
  5. Identify ways to make better use of internal resources/information
  6. Identify and resolve inconsistencies in management of departments/offices
  7. Identify areas where HLC may be able to provide us with consultative assistance in a visit with a special emphasis.
