A look at microfinance in Central America

Rapid population growth, urbanization, and stalled economies in Central America have caused widespread despair, with more than 40 percent of residents living in conditions of poverty and one of every five in extreme poverty.

These repressive social and economic conditions have left many grappling for ways to support their families, spurring a new wave of entrepreneurship that has given many hope for the future.

CMU’s Michael Pisani looks at how micro-finance, small loans to fund entrepreneurial endeavors, affects lives in Central America.
