CMU has grown significantly since its founding in 1892. Today the
university has 37 academic departments, more than 150 fields of
study and more than 3,000 individual courses. CMU offers
bachelor's, master's, specialist's and doctoral degrees. The
university is organized into eight colleges: business
administration, communication and fine arts, education and human
services, extended learning, graduate studies, health professions,
humanities and social and behavioral sciences, and science and
technology.

CMU is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the
North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition,
many of CMU's individual programs have met requirements for
specialized state and national accreditation.
