Pleasant also has a quaint downtown shopping district and
unique eateries and pubs. The city is located near the Saginaw
Chippewa Indian Reservation, which has its own tribal government,
police and fire departments, court system and newspaper. The
tribe also operates a casino and resort on the reservation.
To the north and west of Mount Pleasant are the lakes, streams,
ski resorts, beaches and magnificent wilderness areas for
which Michigan is famous. To the south and east lie rich farmland
and larger metropolitan areas with numerous museums, theaters,
art fairs and shopping opportunities.
