Planning Committees

The committees listed below consist primarily of senior officers and office directors. They hold a planning, prioritization, and direct governance role within CMU's Information Technology environment.

Online Learning Environment Executive Team -

The Online Learning Environment Executive Team works closely with the Council of Deans and is responsible for building plans, recommending and articulating priorities, chartering projects, and overseeing development in CMU's online learning environment. In this effort, it will investigate and implement broad strategies that will be applied towards specific practices and technologies used in that environment.

SAP Executive Team -

The SAP Executive Team is charged with global oversight of the administrative systems environment at CMU. In addition to resolving any resource issues emerging from its affiliated program teams, it will also be responsible for building plans, recommending and articulating priorities, and overseeing development across CMU’s administrative systems. During the discovery phase of any project under its direct purview, this team will review the project concept and assign a sponsor to assume decision-making authority for the team.

Academic Systems Program Team -

The Academic Systems Program Team is responsible for building plans, recommending and articulating priorities and overseeing development surrounding the Student Lifecycle Management (SLCM) module of CMU's SAP ERP. During the discovery phase of any project under its direct purview, this team will review the project concept and assign a sponsor to assume decision-making authority for the team.

FI/HR Program Team -

During the discovery phase of any project under its direct purview, this team will review the project concept and assign a sponsor to assume decision-making authority for the team.

Compliance Executive Team -

The Compliance Executive Team is charged with oversight of the compliance landscape at CMU. In this capacity, it will identify and work with campus groups that are charged with responsibility for various categories of compliance to conduct internal, informal assessments of CMU's compliance requirements. The Compliance Executive Team will provide annual reports to the President and Vice-Presidents.

Information Security Advisory Team -

The Information Security Advisory Team (ISAT) regularly reviews any data and systems security-related incidents, threats, trends, and/or recommendations escalated by the Security Incident Response Team (SIRT) and builds plans to address these that are integrated with CMU's audit, personnel, and legal processes. ISAT will work with SIRT and appropriate university offices to implement these plans and, through the CIO, will report any compliance-related issues to the Compliance Executive Team.

Security Incident Response Team -

The Security Incident Response Team is charged with response to any security incidents related to CMU's data or systems, as well as the investigation of other matters referred to it by CMU's General Counsel and abuse complaints submitted by CMU faculty, staff, or students. SIRT prepares a report of campus-wide digital security threats each semester and makes recommendations to the Information Security Advisory Team relative to new policies or processes that will enhance the security of CMU's data and systems.

Advisory Committees

The committees listed below provide general advice, directon, input, and feedback to OIT. Projects and improvements emerging from their discussions will be introduced to the planning channels noted above.

IT Executive Council -

The IT Executive Council is a virtual IT team that is chaired by the CIO and is responsible for coordinating the response by all campus IT units to goals established by the university. It meets 3-4 times annually and acts as a forum for CMU’s distributed IT groups to develop coordinated plans for shared services, to improve the quality of IT service across CMU, to improve the security of CMU’s data and systems, and to optimize CMU’s IT spending.

Distributed Computing Steering Committee (DCSC) -

The Distributed Computing Steering Committee meets monthly to discuss the tactical implementation of initiatives determined by the IT Executive Council. These initiatives include faculty and staff desktop support, support of mediated classrooms and campus labs, and directory-related planning.

Administrative Computing Planning Committee -

The Administrative Computing Steering Committee (ACPC) is a vehicle for improving awareness of academic and administrative technology projects and initiatives under consideration, in progress, and implemented. This committee is responsible for monitoring a 2-3 year plan for central services, applications, and development that supports common academic and administrative initiatives and needs. ACPC will work with OIT to document business process relating to common data and information exchange across business units and will also forward to the CIO any policy and procedure recommendations regarding priority IT development, security, and proper use of IT infrastructure.
