Career outlook
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, for all occupations through the year 2014:
- Overall employment will grow 9 to 17 percent for teachers from kindergarten through secondary grades.
- Job opportunities for teachers over the next 10 years will vary from good to excellent, depending on the locality, grade level, and subject taught.
- Increasing enrollments of minorities, coupled with a shortage of minority teachers, should cause efforts to recruit minority teachers to intensify.
- The number of non-English-speaking students will continue to grow, creating demand for bilingual teachers.
