Senior one of seven students in U.S. to attend summer physicist fellowship

Reed Kolany spent the summer as one of seven U.S. students in the Summer Undergraduate Fellowship Program through the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. The physics major spent the 10-week program working on a project titled "The prophylactic nature of incidental brain irradiation on the development of metastases."

Faculty member receives $60,000 teacher-scholar award

Benjamin Swarts, a chemistry and biochemistry faculty member, is one of seven recipients of the 2017 Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award. The award provides an unrestricted research grant of $60,000 to faculty at primarily undergraduate institutions who are accomplished researchers and committed educators. 

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan awards research grants to students

Merna Abdou, Kristin Bartman, Alexandra Gamber, Maryssa Lyons and George Mater each received a $3,000 Student Award Program grant through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. The money will fund various research projects.

First Night Scholarship recipient recognized for contributions and achievements

Senior music theater major Claire-Francis Sullivan received the 2017 First Nighter Scholarship. Sullivan has acted and worked backstage in University Theatre and Summer Theatre productions; written and directed an original musical, "Bruised"; and worked over the summer as playwriting apprentice at Powerhouse Theater Co. and New York Stage and Film in Poughkeepsie, New York. The scholarship is endowed through the First Nighters, a CMU Theatre support group. Students are selected for their demonstrated overall contribution to the theater program at CMU.
