Lane Demas book receives golf association honors
CMU history faculty member Lane Demas' book "Game of Privilege" has received the Herbert Warren Wind Award, the United States Golf Association's prize for the top golf book of 2017. "Game of Privilege" explores race, class and public space on the golf course.
Suzanne Woods wins Distinguished Service Award
Suzanne Woods, speech-language pathology faculty member, received the 2018 Michigan Speech-Language Hearing Association's Distinguished Service Award. The award is the association's highest honor and will be presented to her at its annual meeting in March. Woods is faculty advisor for future speech-language pathologists and division director for the speech-language pathology department.
Jackson Bensley named Gamman of the Year
Jackson Bensley is Eta Sigma Gamma's winner of the Loren B. Bensley Gamman of the Year award, carrying on the legacy of his grandfather, Loren, who helped found the professional honorary society for health professions in 1971. Jackson will receive his award, along with a recognition award for the whole chapter, at the annual SOPHE conference in Columbus, Ohio, on April 5.
Students awarded CEHS Learning and Leading awards
Joseph Garrison, a doctoral student in educational leadership; Sue Wroblewski, a master's student in apparel production development and merchandising technology; and Hannah Marie Bleech, an undergraduate student majoring in gerontology; have won the Learning and Leading Award recognizing undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Education and Human Services who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, within their clinical experiences, and through leadership, service and professionalism. They each received a $500 scholarship and will be recognized at an April 27 ceremony.
Maroon, gold and green: CMU honored for sustainability
Central Michigan University is listed among the best colleges in The Princeton Review's "2017 Guide to 375 Green Colleges." The Review gives CMU a green score of 91 out of 99 for sustainability.
