Apparel Design

CMU ranked among top fashion merchandising schools in the country

Central Michigan University’s apparel merchandising and design program has been named No. 20 on the list of top fashion merchandising schools in the country and No. 31 for fashion design. The list was published by fashion-schools.org, a national evaluation site for prospective design students. Fashion Schools’ website awards state-of-the-art technology while focusing on the latest design trends.

CMU is the highest-ranking Michigan school on the list. Of the more than 200 schools considered, CMU is ranked among the top 15 percent of fashion design programs in the U.S. The criteria included academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program, and faculty.

Jayne Cherie Strachan

CMU faculty member joins academic journal’s editorial board

Central Michigan University professor of political science Jayne Cherie Strachan has been invited to serve on the Board of Editors for The Journal of Civil Literacy — a new peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal published by the Center for Civic Literacy at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

The journal will be an online, open source publication published twice a year, including research into the dimensions, causes and consequences of American citizens’ lack of constitutional and political knowledge.

Edward Grant

GM of CMU Public Broadcasting receives 2013 Professional Pioneer Award

The Michigan Association of Public Broadcasters has honored Edward Grant, general manager for Central Michigan University Public Broadcasting, with the 2013 Professional Pioneer Award. Grant, who has been an employee at CMU since 1971, has been working with CMU Public Broadcasting for nearly 25 years.

Grant built the program into one of the largest university-owned public broadcasting systems in the country and helped build the careers of many broadcasters. Grant has been an active member of MAPB throughout his time at CMU and has served on the MAPB Board of Directors for more than a decade.
