Q: Is the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program recognized by the Ontario Ministry?

A: Yes, this program is offered under the written consent of the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities granted for a seven-year term commencing in April, 2022.

Q: Can I take pursue the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program at my own pace?

A: The Master of Arts in Education – Community College program is designed to be completed in approximately two years. The program is carefully designed to follow a course sequence, and that course sequence is highly recommended. If you need to take a break from the program, we can certainly work with you on the best options for you to make up missed courses in your scheduled cohort program. Please work with the program coordinator or academic advisor regarding any necessary schedule changes.

Q: Can I take the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program completely online?

A: Yes!  The program is available 100% online or through one of our partner locations. If you choose an online cohort, you can complete everything online. If you choose one of our partner locations, you will take courses that are a mix of face-to-face, online, and hybrid learning. Please see the course schedule regarding the delivery format of individual courses.

Q: Can I use OSAP funding toward the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program?

A: Yes, CMU is an OSAP-approved school. For OSAP purposes, the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program is considered a full-time program if taken in the prescribed schedule. Please look under the Financial Investment section of the website for more information on OSAP.

Q: How long has the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program been offered?

A: CMU began offering the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program in Canada in 1977 and has been a proud partner of the Ontario College System for all but the first 10 of its 50+ years. While the program has developed and grown with the changing educational climate, it has remained committed to further educating Ontarians locally.

Q: Aside from the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program, are there any other CMU programs offered locally in Ontario?

A: At this time, the only program CMU offers in Ontario is the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program. CMU has a large array of other programs offered online including a doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration.

Q: What kind of learner will find benefit in the Master of Arts in Education – Community College program?

A: While originally designed for instructors, the current student makeup of this program is much more diverse. Many students in the program come from the education system (teachers, administrators, support staff, student affairs, etc), however, in each cohort, there are students coming in from health care, law enforcement, the military, and various other industries. This program has been newly redesigned to allow students to focus on two areas of emphasis: Administration/Student Affairs, or College Teaching.

Q: Is there ever a need for me to travel to Michigan for the program?

A: Students are not required to travel to Michigan during the program. While not mandatory, many students travel to Central Michigan University at the end of their program for graduation. Graduation is a great time to see CMU's beautiful campus and celebrate your wonderful accomplishment of completing your degree with those in your program.
