Fly Tying

Fly tyingFly Tying is the process of producing an artificial fly to be used by anglers to catch fish via means of fly fishing. Probably the most concise description of fly tying is the one by Helen Shaw, a preeminent American professional fly tyer in Fly-Tying.

Fly Tying at CMU:

This class is completely unique to CMU students and is not like any other in the state. Students first purchase a custom-designed fly tying kit to use and keep for their lifetime. They then learn how to tie flies in many different ways from an instructor with many years of experience. The class is only five weeks long and class sessions are combined to give students the best tying experience. Pair this class up with RPL 218 and you will be able to teach generations your skills. This class is popular among mid-Michigan fly fishers so check CMU Course registration for class information.
