Weight Training

Student weight liftingWeight training is a common type of strength training for developing the strength and size of skeletal muscles. It uses the weight force of gravity (in the form of weighted bars, dumbbells or weight stacks) to oppose the force generated by muscle through a concentric or eccentric contraction. Weight training uses a variety of specialized equipment to target specific muscle groups and types of movement.

Weight Training at CMU:

We offer two weight training courses, PED 189 and PED 285. These courses give students the knowledge and experience of designing implementing a weight training program. Students learn how to perform the exercise safely and effectively. Time management, self-assessment, and goal setting are key skills that are of focus in this course. Remember, the best way to stay active is to schedule it. Why pay for a personal trainer when you can learn to train yourself.  Check CMU registration for current information.
