Freshmen Next Steps After Deposit Fall Semester
Once you've submitted your enrollment deposit, you're ready to complete your enrollment checklist items like signing up for orientation and applying for housing.

Schedule your required orientation
Beginning in February, you'll be ready to sign up for your orientation. Orientation is required for all undergraduate, degree-seeking students, and sessions are held throughout the summer. Spots are first come, first served, so it’s best to do this as soon as possible. You’ll learn about life at CMU and most importantly, sign up for your classes. After you register you will receive information about items to be completed before your orientation date.
We also suggest setting up your CMU account, because we will be emailing important information to your new cmich email address.
Apply for housing: January
Now you're ready to start your housing application! After your enrollment deposit is processed, we'll email you the Residential Community Living Guide to your cmich.edu email address. This will help guide you through applying for housing, including selecting a meal plan, choosing your residence hall preferences, and finding a roommate.
Once you set up your CMU account, you'll use that username and password to log into your housing application. All first-and second-year students are required to live on campus, unless you qualify for an exemption.
Housing registration opens in January.

Financial aid offer: February
You'll receive your personalized financial aid offer by mail to your home and emailed to your cmich.edu account beginning in February. Your financial aid offer will highlight any scholarships you've earned so far, grants and/or work-study you've received, and loans we suggest for you.
You must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with CMU to receive your award offer.
First housing bill due; confirm housing and roommate preferences: May - June
Your first housing payment is due June 1. If you apply for housing after June 1, you will submit your payment with your application for housing.
You will receive an email in your CMU inbox by June 1, asking you to confirm your roommate and housing preferences. The Office of Residence Life will use these preferences in assigning housing and roommates. If you do not select roommate preferences, you will be assigned based on your housing preferences.
Housing assignments will be emailed the last week of June and you'll be notified of your roommates in early August.
Register for IMPACT and/or Leadership Safari
Look for an invitation in your mailbox and your inbox with instructions on how to register for IMPACT and Leadership Safari, two different guided experiences designed to welcome new students to CMU at the beginning of the semester.
Students who attend these events say this is the best start possible to their college careers! Registration is limited so sign up early.
