Now that you have been admitted, let us guide you through the next steps toward enrollment and a smooth transition to life as a CMU Chippewa.
You know you're taking your future in the right direction when you receive word that you've been admitted to Central Michigan University. Finalize your enrollment as a CMU student with this step-by-step checklist.
Your first step is setting up your new CMU account. You'll need it for almost everything, including:
- Submitting your enrollment reservation deposit
- Receiving your student ID number and Global ID
- Setting up an official CMU email account
- Applying for financial aid
- Registering for classes and housing
You will need your unique "New CMU Account PIN, located on your letter of admission. If you need assistance locating your PIN, contact email@example.com. Establish your CMU connection
Officially reserve your place in the upcoming class by paying your enrollment reservation deposit of $175. Once you set up your Global ID in step one, you may pay your deposit online. The deposit is fully refundable if you cancel your admission to CMU prior to May 1 (or December 1 if you are beginning classes in the spring semester). Pay the enrollment reservation deposit
If you received the Academic Prestige Award, Academic Excellence Award, Academic Success Award, or Residence Life Grant for Freshmen, you must accept your award to have it applied to your account. After you enroll
Once you submit your enrollment reservation deposit, you will begin to receive important communications, including instructions regarding housing, orientation, and financial aid.
DECEMBER – Begin the housing application
The Community Living Guide will be mailed in December. If your deposit is submitted after the initial mailing, you will receive your guide 7-10 days after your deposit has been processed. The guide contains residence hall information and instructions on completing part one of the online housing application. A digital version will be emailed to your cmich.edu account. JANUARY – Schedule an orientation session
Instructions on registering for a summer orientation session will arrive in your mailbox and your cmich.edu inbox beginning in January (or September if you are beginning classes in the spring). During the required orientation session, you will meet advisors and other students, explore majors and minors, register for classes and get your campus ID card. FEBRUARY - Register for a Next Steps event
Several Next Steps events are held at locations throughout the state to provide admitted students and their families with information on the steps needed to enroll at CMU.
MARCH - Register for Leadership Safari
Look for an invitation in your mailbox and your cmich.edu inbox with instructions on how to register for Leadership Safari. Those who attend Safari say this is the best start possible to their college careers! Registration is limited so sign up early. Visit leadershipsafari.cmich.edu for more information.
APRIL - Receive your financial aid award package
Personalized financial aid award packages are mailed and emailed in late March or early April.
MAY - Finalize housing arrangements
Your initial room and board payment is due May 1. Later in the month, part two of the online housing application will open, allowing you to select your room and roommate preference. Look for an email in early May and refer to the Residence Life Living Guide, or reslife.cmich.edu, for instructions.
Two-thousand incoming students will get a jump on college life with Leadership Safari. Specifically designed for all new students, Leadership Safari provides an opportunity for you to learn how to be successful at CMU. Develop your leadership skills as you explore campus, make new friends and settle into college life before classes start. Move into campus a week early and get your experience as a CMU Chippewa started off right.
