Enrollment checklists and deadlines

Now that you have been admitted, let us guide you through the next steps toward enrollment and a smooth transition to life as a CMU Chippewa.

Enrollment Checklist

You know you're taking your future in the right direction when you receive word that you've been admitted to Central Michigan University. Finalize your enrollment as a CMU student with this step-by-step checklist.

Step 1

Establish your CMU connection

Your first step is setting up your new CMU account. You'll need it for almost everything including:

  • Submitting your enrollment reservation deposit
  • Receiving your student ID number and Global ID
  • Setting up an official CMU email account
  • Applying for financial aid
  • Registering for classes and housing

You will need your unique "New CMU Account PIN" that was included on the letter inside your official admission packet. If you need assistance please contact the Help Desk at 989-774-3662 or

Step 2

Pay the enrollment reservation deposit

Officially reserve your place in the upcoming class by paying your enrollment reservation deposit of $175. Once you set up your Global ID in step one, you may pay online at The deposit is fully refundable if you cancel your admission to CMU prior to May 1 (or December 1 if you are beginning classes in the spring semester).

Step 3

Check in frequently

Now that you have a email address, be sure to check it frequently for important pieces of communication from the university. You may find it helpful to forward your CMU emails to an account you already have. Instructions are located at

Step 4

Apply for financial aid

In addition to any financial awards you may have received in your admission packet, you will still want to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and search for other CMU scholarships or departmental scholarships for which you may be eligible.

The FAFSA is available at after Jan. 1 and should be submitted by Feb. 15 to be considered for priority aid programs. CMU's school code is 002243.

After being admitted to CMU and completing the FAFSA, you will receive a financial aid award notice in early April that will outline scholarships, grants, work-study opportunities and student/parent loans.

For additional information and assistance, contact CMU's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at 888-392-0007 or, or visit the office's website for new and transfer students.

Step 5

Choose an orientation date

New students are required to attend an on-campus summer orientation (or November if you are beginning classes in January). Get ready to discover the Central Experience! During your orientation session, you will meet advisors and other students, explore majors and minors, register for classes, and get your campus ID card. Visit for complete details. Dates and a link to registration will be available beginning in January.

Step 6

Reserve your room

Visit to get started on selecting a residence hall, and even a roommate, that is right for you! Among the benefits of living in a residence hall, you'll have opportunities to meet with academic advisors right where you live, and enjoy flexible and convenient dining options and fitness facilities.
