Centralis and Honors Scholarship Competition

Each year CMU seeks top high school seniors to fill 225 spots in the incoming class of the Honors Scholar Program.  [Learn more about the CMU Honors Program​]

The Honors Scholar Program is a comprehensive fully-enriched academic experience for high academic ability students who seek to aim higher and achieve more meaningfully through unique educational opportunities and experiences. 

Students are selected through participation in the Centralis and Honors Scholarship Competition conducted each fall on the campus of CMU.

   
How to participate in the Centralis and Honors Scholarship Competition
  • ​High school seniors with a minimum 3.7 high school GPA and an ACT score of 27 or higher are eligible to complete. 
  • Students meeting these credentials can register for one of two competition dates – October 25, 2014 or November 15, 2014. Registration details will be announced here in summer/fall 2014. 
  • Submit your application for admission to CMU.
  • Download the Centralis and Honors Scholar Competition Application. This application is different than the CMU Admissions Application referenced above. This application must be completed and presented at the competition.

What to expect during the half-day competition
  • Check in and attend a welcome reception.
  • Opportunities to learn about CMU's prestigious Honors Scholar Program and meet with current Honors students, staff and faculty.
  • Receive information about CMU’s more than 200 academic programs at the bachelor’s, master’s specialist and doctoral level’s, including nationally ranked programs. 
  • Learn more about CMU’s Residence Life, Career Services, Academic Advising, and Scholarship & Financial Aid offices.
  • Competitors will have one hour to complete a timed essay in response to a prompt given on site. 
  • During the essay portion of the day special programming for parents/family members will take place at a different location.
  • Optional campus tour
