Art Walk Central 2017

University Art Gallery is one of eighteen venues throughout the Mt. Pleasant Community and the largest venue for the Art Walk Central art event.  Organized by Art Reach of Mid Michigan and sponsored in part by the City of Mt. Pleasant and CMU this exhibition will feature the works of 32 artists from across Michigan including CMU alums Zach Martis, Kristi Cranson, Betty Klooster Tyler, Kim Kleinhardt, Jan Alfano, Dietmar Krumry, Jjenna Hupp Andrews, Donna Hiner, Loissa Harrison-Parks and current CMU students Emily Gunning and Steven Bailey.

Artist Talks & Reception: Monday, August 28, 2017 4 pm. Artists Margaret Colarelli, Donna Hiner and Dietmar Krumry will speak in the gallery about their work.  A reception for the artists and to celebrate the first day of classes at CMU will follow until 6 pm.

Department of Art and Design Faculty Exhibition 2017

Members of the Department of Art & Design faculty exhibit their current work. Exhibition features work in painting, photography, graphic design, animation,  ceramics, sculpture and installation by faculty: Steve Barber, Larry Burditt, John Clarke, Brian Elder, Ryan Flesher, Ren Hullender, Steve Leeper, Johanna Paas, Kris Sanford, Greg Stahly, Judy Thurston, and Michael Volker.

ALTERNATIONAL: Works by Chris Maddox, 2017 Barstow Artist-in-Residence

2017 Barstow Artist-in-Residence, Chris Maddox will exhibit his art of mixed media on paper and altered books.  Maddox earned his MFA from University of Wisconsin Madison in 2016 after working many years as a graphic designer. This included being the creative director of Shopbop.com, a startup fashion retailer based in Madison and New York.  His current work explores his personal experience as well as the contemporary issues of digital print & information delivery, the historicizing of books and affirmation of the artist's intervention in culture.

125th CMU Anniversary Young Alums Exhibition

In honor of the 125th anniversary of Central Michigan University, the University Art Gallery is featuring the work of graduates of the past ten years from the Department of Art and Design. These young artists are making art and design works, teaching, designing, working in museums and galleries, and creating culture.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art, Fall 2017 Exhibition

This art exhibition showcases the work by CMU Department of Art & Design candidate for the BFA in Art degree: Amnestie Tate VerDuin. The exhibition fulfills part of the requirements for her degree and capstone class taught by Anne Gochenour, Director of the University Art Gallery.

The Ese'Eja People of the Amazon: Connected by a Thread

"Believed to have descended from the sky on a thread of cotton, the Ese'Eja are one of the world's last remaining foraging Amazonian cultures." This exhibition features photographs by Andy Bale and Jon Cox and artifacts of the Ese'Eja people of the Amazon. The exhibition was organized by Andy Bale, Dr. Vicki Cassman, Jon Cox and Monica Dominguez Torres, PHD, premiered at University Museums, University of Delaware and will end up at Puerto Maldonado in southeastern Peru.

2017 Annual Juried CMU Student Art Exhibition

Juried by an independent art professional, this exhibition is open to all CMU students. Awards of $750 determined by the juror. Entries accepted February 13 and 14, 2018.

Graphic Design 2018 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition 

Exhibition done as part of a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and the capstone class taught by Cark Most, it will feature work by candidates for the BFA in Graphic Design.
