Community Wide Event

Art Walk Central 2015

August 1 – 19, 2015

University Art Gallery, Art Reach of Mid Michigan and various other venues in and around downtown Mt. Pleasant, MI

Art Walk Central is an art competition and an art infusion during the month of August! Organized by Art Reach of Mid Michigan and sponsored in part by the City of Mt. Pleasant and CMU, the Mt. Pleasant community hosts over 100 artist works that are eligible to win over $20,000 in prizes. Voting runs August 1-18, 2015.  Your votes will determine the People's Choice award!

In addition to the art competition, Art Walk Central fills the month of August with art and cultural events for people of all ages.  Whether you choose to learn about chalk art, join us painting the streets downtown, attend any of our artist talks, learn to paint plein air, attend a Max & Emily's Summer Concert, enjoy Movies by Moonlight at City Hall, or participate in any of the other exciting Art Walk Central events, you can be assured that you'll be inspired to do something artistic this summer!  For a complete activity schedule and further voting information, please visit the Art Reach of Mid Michigan website at www.artreachcenter.org/art-walk-central.

University Art Gallery is one of twenty-five venues throughout the Mt. Pleasant Community and the largest venue for Art Walk Central featuring the works of 26 artists from across Michigan.

Bees Swarm CMU Art Gallery

Representatives of the Beehive Collective, a social activist artist cooperative, will give a program "ROCK BOTTOM", in the Age of Extreme Resource Extraction".  In this presentation they will use their large prints "The True Cost of Coal" and "Mesoamerica Resiste" and graphics and stories from around the Great Lakes bio-region.  They will also give "Graphics for the Commons" – a hands-on collaborative graphic-making workshop where they will share strategies for educating and organizing with images.  For further information contact Art Gallery Director, Ann Gochenour at 989-774-7457 or by email at goche1as@cmich.edu.
