The winning students perform April 18 at 8 p.m. in Staples Family Concert Hall* with the CMU orchestra under the direction of Dr. José-Luis Maúrtua. The evening’s program will include Emmanuel Sejourné’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings, Russell Peck’s The Upward Stream for tenor saxophone, and Vladimir Cosma’s Euphonium Concerto.

This year’s Concerto/Aria Competition featured performances by undergraduate and graduate instrumental, vocal, and keyboard students, adjudicated by James Hohmeyer of the Midland Center for the Arts, Fangye Sun of the Grand Rapids Symphony, and Michael Kroth of Michigan State University’s College of Music.

Winning the annual competition is the highest performance honor a student can receive in the School of Music.
