Karen Ross
Karen L. Ross, FHFMA is the Contract Administrator for the Michigan State University HealthTeam.  MSU HealthTeam is the joint clinical practice for the College of Human Medicine, College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Nursing.  Karen is responsible for negotiating all clinical contracts including third-party payors, leases, independent contractors and vendor contracts.  Prior to joining the HealthTeam in May of 2009, Karen was a Director of Finance in the Sparrow Health System in Lansing, Michigan and was responsible for the finance, reimbursement, accounting and budgeting for Sparrow Development, Inc. and its subsidiaries as well as Home Health Care of Sparrow, Inc. and Sparrow Foundation.  Sparrow Development, Inc. is the for-profit arm of Sparrow Health System, which consists of Michigan Athletic Club, Pharmacy Plus, Sparrow Regional Medical Supply & Pharmacy, Sparrow Practice Management Company and Sparrow Development.  Before making the move to the Lansing area, Karen was the Chief Financial Officer and Finance Administrator for Central Michigan Community Hospital (CMCH), currently known as McLaren Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.  CMCH was a 118-licensed bed acute care facility with a 33-bed inpatient psychiatric facility along with home care services and physician practices.  Karen started her career in healthcare as a staff accountant at CMCH was promoted to Director of Accounting and to Chief Financial Officer.  Prior to starting her career in healthcare, Karen was an Associate National Bank Examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, a division of the U.S. Treasury, stationed in South Bend, Indiana.
Karen is a graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelors in Business Administration degree (1985) with majors in Accounting and Management Information Systems and a Masters degree in Business Administration (1993).  Karen is a member of Healthcare Financial Management Association (Great Lakes Chapter), where she has received the William G. Folmer Bronze Award (1996), Robert H. Reeves Silver Award (2000), Frederick T. Muncie Gold Merit Award (2004) and the Francis E. Williams Outstanding Member Award (1997).  She is past-president of the Great Lakes Chapter and member of numerous committees.  She is also a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.  Karen has been involved in numerous community service organizations such as Business and Professional Women, Christmas in April, Junior Achievement, United Way, U.S. Jaycees, CASA of Ingham County. Karen has guest lectured on healthcare finance at both Central Michigan University and the University of Michigan.  Karen has also presented at the Big 10 Universities Internal Audit Conference.
