Dr. Masterson is  Dean of The Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions at Central Michigan University. He began his CMU career as an Assistant Professor in the School of Health Sciences, later becoming an Associate and Full Professor. He assumed the role of Chairperson for the School of Health Sciences in 2004 and was later named Interim Dean in 2007. Masterson was named Associate Dean in 2009; was appointed Interim Dean in December of 2014, and was then named Dean in March of 2016 after a national search.

Throughout his career, Dr. Masterson has served on various committees, task forces, councils, executive boards and in other capacities representing The Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. He currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for Mid Central Area Health Education Center (MI-AHEC) and serves on the Board of Directors for Michigan Health Improvement Alliance, Inc. (MiHIA). He participates in a variety of professional organizations including The Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions, American Association of Physical Anthropologists, International Primatological Society, and the American Society of Primatologists.

Masterson holds his Bachelor's degrees in Anthropology and History, Master's degree in Biological Anthropology, and Doctoral degree in Biological Anthropology with a minor in Anatomy, all from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Throughout his career, Masterson has taught gross human anatomy for Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant programs at various universities. His research interests include Arthrokinematics, functional morphology, craniofacial growth, and genealogy.

Masterson and his wife Nancy have three daughters and live in Mt. Pleasant with their two dogs. They enjoy soccer, volleyball, swimming, golf, and walking their dogs in the woods.
