To Whom It May Concern,
The 2013-2014 American Sign Language Society Executive Board
is honored to present the Mary Joan Ceisel Scholarship fund. This scholarship is designed to empower Deaf,
Hard of Hearing, or Deaf culture-focused students. Furthermore, it is designed to enhance
appreciation Deaf culture and to strengthen the Deaf culture and community of
Central Michigan University.
Mary Joan Ceisel is grandmother to Mallorie Ceisel, 2009-2010
ASLS President. Mrs. Ceisel had a very
deep connection with her family, especially Mallorie. She loved to see Mallorie’s passion for
further education and this love has transcended into Mallorie’s life. In honor of Grandma Ceisel and as a
reflection of the love these two share, the Mary Joan Ceisel Scholarship Fund
was established to provide financial assistance to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and
Deaf culture-focused individuals who seek further education and share a passion
for Deaf culture.
The American Sign Language Society aims to strengthen ASL skills,
explore Deaf culture, and contribute to the Deaf community. Our core values are Immersion, Leadership,
Diversity, Service, Community and Students.
ASLS invites any students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Deaf
culture-focused and who represent our values and believe in our mission
statement to apply for this award.
Our vision is to change the misconception.
