Central Michigan University offers the Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree in
an online format with students participating in a number of hours of synchronous
learning using Internet technology. Face-to-face cohorts may be offered at the main campus
in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and some satellite centers over the next few years.

The program is in the process of seeking accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation
of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). Graduates of this program achieve
positions in the administration and management of hospitals, health systems, and long-term
care facilities. They also acquire positions in practice management, consulting and other
areas within the field.

There is a six-credit, semester-long internship required of those with little or no experience
in health administration. For those in the field, a master’s level field experience or a research paper may be done in lieu of the internship. Content areas within the MHA degree include administration, leadership, management, managerial epidemiology, health care finance, public policy, health economics, strategic planning, service marketing, quality, informatics, health law,
research and quantitative methods.

Individuals seeking a career change, students coming from an undergraduate program, and
those already in a health career will find this degree beneficial as they seek entry-level and
higher-level employment in the field. Many clinicians have found the MHA degree helpful in
advancing their careers as both clinical leaders and as administrators or managers.

Central Michigan University is a leader in healthcare education. The Herbert H. & Grace
A. Dow College of Health Professions, where the MHA is located, has a distinguished
history of offering education in health administration, audiology, speech and language,
physical therapy, exercise science, community and public health, athletic training, sport
management, physical education, and the physician assistant program.
