Peter B. Orlik MAB Foundation Scholarship

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation offers FOUR $1,000

scholarships to BCA students in the name of Peter B. Orlik, founder and

former director of the School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts.


Broadcast & Cinematic Arts Endowed Scholarships

Criteria for these grants are similar to those for the Special Talent Scholarships. Students must have established a successful classroom and co-curricular record in BCA before applying. 

Broadcast & Cinematic Arts Special Talent Scholarships

Broadcast and Cinematic Arts majors are eligible to apply for scholarships that recognize their abilities and achievements in the classroom and in the department's cocurricular facilities.

The scholarships are competitively awarded on an annual basis, with applications accepted in March for the following year.

Typically, scholarships are given for a complete academic year (Fall and Spring semesters). Winners are eligible to compete for a renewal of their awards in subsequent years.

Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • demonstrated intent to complete a BCA major
  • minimum 3.0 grade point average in BCA coursework
  • minimum 2.5 grade point in all college coursework
  • significant and positive current involvement in one or more of the following department cocurricular activities:
    • WMHW-FM
    • Moore Hall Television
    • News Central 34
    • Moore Media Records
  • specified plan of continued involvement in department cocurricular activities for the year in which the scholarship is to be used

Dollar amount of the BCA Special Talent Scholarships varies from year-to-year based on the number of winners selected for that year by the department faculty.

  • Offered to BCA Majors who demonstrate a financial need.
  • Preference will be given to those who demonstrate an interest in sports broadcasting.


Fausto and Gladys Fernandez Memorial Scholarship

Established by BCA Alumnus Eduardo Fernandez in memory of his parents, Fausto and Gladys Fernandez

  • Offered to BCA Majors who express a special interest on increasing diversity in electronic media
  • BCA GPA 3.0 and Overall GPA 2.5


Named in honor of BCA Alumnus Tim Roberts by the Country Music Broadcasters

  • Offered to BCA Majors
  • BCA GPA 3.0 and Overall GPA 2.5
  • Study toward a career in RADIO required


Established by BCA alumni in memory of Susan Rozman Delia, BCA Alumna, who was the first woman Vice President of ABC and ESPN

  • Offered to BCA Majors
  • BCA GPA 3.2 and Overall GPA 3.0
  • Internship required


Named by his family in memory of BCA Alumnus Jeffrey Ray Vernon

  • Offered to BCA Majors or Minors
  • BCA GPA 3.0 and Overall GPA 2.5


Named in Memory of Kelly Fitzpatrick (JRN major) and Bruce Wood (BCA major) who were engaged to be married and tragically killed in a car accident shortly after graduation from CMU

  • Offered to BCA Majors or Minors
  • BCA GPA 3.0 and Overall GPA 2.5
  • Available every other year (2019-2020, 2021-2022, etc.)


Named in memory of the late CMU Vice President of Academic Affairs

  • Offered to BCA Majors or Minors
  • BCA GPA 3.0 and Overall GPA 2.5
  • Available every third year (2019, 2022, 2025, etc.)
