News Central 34 is a half-hour student-produced nightly newscast which airs at 5 PM weekdays in the counties of Isabella, Clare and Gratiot.  News Central 34 is an affiliate of CNN and CBS News and reporters cover campus, local, and regional news.

Any CMU student is welcome to audition for a position as an anchor for news, sports, or weather.  Students may also audition for on-air reporter positions.  The newscast is produced by students taking BCA 524 (Producing Television News) and students taking BCA 223 (Video Production) serve as the production crew.

News Central offers students an exciting and fast-paced experiential learning environment.  Students get real-world experience and discover the importance of teamwork and accuracy in a fun and welcoming newsroom environment.

Excellence in Directing award was awarded to News Central 34 for its Morning Show at the Philo Festival of Media Arts.

Josh Bonzheim 1st place in the Student Health competition category.

Zach Huffman 1st place Political Awareness category for News Central 34’s election night coverage.

Prof. Rick Sykes accepted the 1st place award for Best Newscast in the Student Division.
