News Central is a student-managed news organization in the School of Broadcast & Cinematic Arts at Central Michigan University that produces content for both over-the-air and digital platforms. The over-the-air content includes a live five-nights a week half hour newscast that is seen in three counties and a dozen communities in mid-Michigan. In addition, a 15-minute morning version of
News Central airs live three days a week. The morning and evening broadcasts are livestreamed daily to local followers across the country.
Content from the broadcasts is also available on Twitter, Facebook, and
newscentral34.com. The award winning news organization offers students interested in a career in news, sports or weather an excellent opportunity to develop skills that will be helpful in securing internships before they graduate and positions in the industry after they finish school.
A unique feature of the program is the fact that students can get involved with many of the organization's activities as soon as they reach campus. The value of their involvement with
News Central is further enhanced by the fact that the organization has over time developed strong relationships with a number of media professionals in the field both regionally and nationally.
