Integrative Public Relations (IPR) is an interdisciplinary major composed of programs from three academic units in the College of Communication and Fine Arts. A joint effort by the School of Broadcast & Cinematic Arts, the Department of Journalism and the Department of Communication has resulted in a comprehensive major that is designed to prepare students for a promising career in public relations.
The diverse elements in the major gives students a cross section of skillsets allowing them to successfully compete in the multifaceted world of public relations. In addition to a strong core of public relations courses, students study concepts in business, entrepreneurship, electronic media, event planning, organizational communication and multimedia design.
Outside of the course work students have the opportunity to get directly involved as soon as they arrive on campus in two key student-focused organizations, PR Central an in-house student run public relations agency, and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), a pre-professional organization affiliated with the Public Relations Society of America.
Both organizations offer students multiple opportunities to develop and enhance their public relations skillsets in "real world like" situations. Students are also required to complete an industry internship to further their understanding of the public relations field.
