Admission

To be admitted to the MBA program, students must meet the University requirements for admission to the College of Graduate Studies and present both an acceptable score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and an acceptable undergraduate grade point average (G.P.A).

Students must have at least 1,050 points based on the formula: 200 times the undergraduate GPA plus a minimum GMAT score of 450.

Applicants are expected to reflect the current MBA student body which possesses an average formula score of more than 1,150.

International students are required to submit an official GMAT and Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) or Michigan English Language Test (MELAB) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam scores for admission to the MBA Program.

Applicants with TOEFL scores of 213 (paper-based test:550/IBT:79) or MELAB scores of 80 or IELTS scores of 6.5 and above may be considered for regular admission.

Applicants with TOEFL scores between 173 and 210 (paper-based test:550-547/IBT:61-78) may be granted conditional admission and will be required to take an English Placement exam administered by CMU's English Language Institute (ELI) upon arrival.

International students are also required to complete a written sample and oral proficiency exam during orientation week when they arrive on campus.

If students fail to obtain satisfactory scores in one or both exams, they will be required to take additional English course work as recommended by the English Language Institute (ELI). This course work can be taken along with MBA classes and must be completed by the end of the second semester on campus.

GMAT Information

The GMAT exam tests students for their language and mathematical skills. This exam is required for admittance to the MBA program because it allows the admission committee to evaluate the prospective student's facility with written English, logical thinking, and analytical analysis.

To schedule a GMAT exam date:

Central Michigan University's Center for Learning Assessment Services (CLAS) administers the GMAT on our campus. Please contact CLAS at 989-774-1092 to schedule an exam date if you'd like to take the exam in Mount Pleasant. At Central Michigan University the GMAT exam is administered on the 1st Tuesday, 1st Friday, and last Friday of each month.

At other locations, the GMAT exam is administered through Pearson VUE. For more information about the locations and cost of the GMAT exam please visit the website: www.mba.com

The exam takes approximately four (4) hours to complete. Therefore, we encourage students to purchase study guide materials to review prior to taking the exam.
Before leaving the test center facility, an unofficiall copy of your GMAT score results will be printed for you. An official copy will be mailed to you ten to fourteen
days after your test date. In order to have your GMAT score sent directly to CMU, please request that CMU receive a copy of your GMAT score.

Registering for Courses

Once admitted to the MBA program, students may register for courses through the MBA Office or the PORTAL-online CMU student service.

Ordering Textbooks

Students may call 1-800-283-0234 or access the online CMU Bookstore website to order textbooks directly from the CMU Bookstore. Provide your Discover, MasterCard, Visa or American Express credit card number, and the books will be shipped to your residence.
