Prerequisites

Foundation requirements (prerequisites) are satisfied with course work or equivalent earned either before or after admission to the MBA program.

Applicants must present evidence of a working knowledge of advanced business applications in spreadsheet, database, and presentation graphics.  In addition, the following courses or equivalents may be completed before or after admission to the MBA program.

Specific foundation course requirements will depend on the student's prior education. Individuals with an undergraduate business degree from an accredited institution will likely waive most, if not all, foundation courses.


Computer Literacy:

1. CMU course: BIS 221*
2. Other accredited schools: A computer course with coverage of Excel, Access, ​PowerPoint, or similar software.
3. Provide a letter of evidence from a manager or supervisor stating knowledge and skill level of software programs utilized in work environment.

MBA 503, Business Communications:

1. CMU course: BIS 360*
2. Other accredited schools: An English course and a speech course, other types of communication courses.
3. Provide a letter of evidence from a manager or supervisor stating communication skills (writing and public speaking skills), and work experience related to communications.

MBA 504, Accounting:

1. CMU course: ACC 201*
2. Other accredited schools: Principles of Accounting or Accounting I.
3. CLEP Exam (ACC 201): A minimum score of 50 required.
4. CMU online course: ACC 203
 

MBA 505, Macroeconomics:

1. CMU course: ECO 201*
2. Other accredited schools: Economics I or Principles of Economics, with macro or micro coverage. We allow engineers to use an Engineering Economics course.
3. CLEP Exam (ECO 201): A minimum score of 50 required.
4. CMU online course: ECO 201
 

MBA 506, Business Law:

1. CMU course: BLR 202*
2. Other accredited schools: A Business Law course.
3. CLEP Exam (BLR 202): A minimum score of 50 required.
4. CMU online course: BLR 202

MBA 507, Marketing:

1. CMU course: MKT 300*
2. Other accredited schools: An Introduction to Marketing course.
3. CLEP Exam (MKT 300): A minimum score of 50 required.
4. One year of work experience in a marketing position.
5. AMA or similar professional marketing course.
6. CMU online course: MKT 300

MBA 508, Management:

1. CMU course: MGT 312*
2. Other accredited schools: An Introduction to Management course.
3. CLEP Exam (MGT 312): A minimum score of 50 required.
4. One year of work experience in a managerial position.
5. CMU online course: MGT 312

MBA 509, Production/Operations Management (Supply Chain Management requirement):

1. CMU course: MGT 340*
2. Other accredited schools: A Production/Operations Management, Operations Management, Manufacturing Processes, or Supply Chain Management course.
3. CMU online course: MGT 340
 

MBA 510, Finance:

1. CMU course: FIN 332*
2. Other accredited schools: A Business Finance course. 3. FIN 332 Exit Exam (no CLEP Exam available): A minimum score of 70 required. 4. One year of work experience in a finance position. 5. CMU online course: FIN 303
 

MBA 511, Statistics:

1. CMU course: STA 282*
2. Other accredited schools: Any Introduction to Statistics course or any other statistics course. 3. CMU online course: STA 282

*A minimum "C" grade in course work is required.
